The patents and the standards are different things.

What is patented

The patent applications cover the specific methodologies and architectures that Agent Shield uses to implement governance. These are the proprietary implementations — the engineering that makes the system work, built over years of research and development into how governance of autonomous AI agents should be structurally enforced.

What is open

The governance standard — AGS v2.1 — is published openly under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence. Anyone can read it, reference it, and build to it.

The standards define what governance should achieve. The patents protect how Agent Shield achieves it. This is the same model used by every major infrastructure standard — openly specified, exclusively implemented.

Agent Shield is the reference implementation of the governance standards published at agentgoverning.com. The standards are open. The implementation is protected by the patent applications described on this page.

Licensing enquiries.

The standard is open. The implementation is protected. Both are intentional.
